I feel these in my biceps pretty hard. It also hits your back to a degree, and your stabilizers are getting work in as well.

do these also work the chest muscles like wide pushups do because your hands are spread so wide??

Yes, to a degree. You have to understand that your arms are out to the side completely straight. So it will not have the same effect as a wide push up. This exercise has more of a nurological effect.
