Is it good to do self massage after the pull up or push up training, and if it is what is the benefits of it?

As far as i know it can help to relax the muscles and also bring blood in the area. Some times when i m injured or sored i self massage the area. Didnt use to do it after my workout. Trial is the best way to find out if it helps
But i also would like to know a more "professional opinion" about benefits and maybe a better way independs of the situation. Gentle or more pushing shiatsu style will help more???
