I get pain on my palms (that fleshy bit at the base of my thumbs) if the bars are too narrow and my hand placement isn't perfect. I've found that the best thing is to use cycling gloves with gel padding (something like these). The gel protects your hands a bit.

Hope that helps.

How're your palms doing?

I bought some pipe lagging (foam pipe insulation) to use on the dip bars at the gym, which are super-narrow (like 1 inch or less). I noticed when I went out to the park where the bars are proper width (scaffolding size) that my hands were so bruised and painful that I couldn't do proper reps. It's made a big difference. Thought I'd share the idea.

I get the pain too, but only because I use 2 thin chairs for dips lol! I put 2 shirts over each bit Wink

Try the pipe lagging - cost me a pound for a metre, and you get quite a few bits off it.
